Class Descriptions and Objectives
Introduction of Digital Project in Taiwan
This class will introduce the National Digital Archive Program initiated in 2002 in Taiwan, and demonstrate few achievements.
Objective: Have an understanding of current status of digitization of cultural objects in Taiwan.
Standards and Technology of Digitization of Chinese Language Materials
This class will introduce the standards of digitization of text and graphical materials, and teach how to name files step by step. Also, to give a general idea of a metadata system, the X-System, drafted by the Graduate Institute of Library Information Studies of NTNU, will be introduced in this class.
Objectives: Be able to create specifications of image files; Be able to make file naming rules; Have the basic concept of a metadata system.
Digitization and Management of Chinese Rare Books
This class will show the very practical knowledge of digitizing rare books, including the standard operation procedure, and the notes of handling rare books. A metadata of rare books will also be explained in detail.
Objectives: Learn the basic steps of digitizing Chinese rare books; Be able to avoid risk of damage to books when digitizing; Be able to create metadata of Chinese rare books.
Quality Management of Digital Chinese Archives
This class will give the concept of quality management by showing frequent problems with scanning, check points, and finally how to differentiate a good image and a bad image.
Objectives: Have the concept of quality management in digitization work; Be able to judge image quality.
All classes taught in lecture format.
