Find newspaper articles without index, and beyond archived newspapers.
For example, Japan Times do not have indexes to search old articles.

Yomiuri archives available online in the UW Libraries catalog to locate the date of events you are looking for. Then you can use MICROFILM of Japan Times, Asahi shinbun to find more articles.
I. Online Newspaper
a. Archival search is very limited. Not many Japanese online newspapers allow you to search for many years. Usually for the previous one year.
* Find online Japanese newspaper in “Google search”
Use “advanced search” specify “language – Japanese”
b. Lexis-Nexis (Information Gateway online database)
1. Choose “Guided News Search”
2. Step one: Select a news category à choose “World News”
3. Step two: select a news source à “choose “Asia/Pacific News sources”
4. Click Source list à choose “Asahi”, “Yomiuri”
5. Note that, in Lexis-Nexis, the word “shinbun” MUST be spelled as “shimbun.”
