USPTO Web Patent Databases
http://www.uspto.gov/patft/
Access to the US Patent Full-Text and Full-Page Image Databases. Issued Patents (PatFT) is a database of the full text content of US patents issued from January 1, 1976 to the most recent weekly issue date. Full-page images are also available from 1790 to the present. Follow the instructions about accessing the images. The full-text is only searchable back to 1976. This means that searching for patents via keyword will only retrieve patents issued since the 1970s. You can search all the way back to 1790 using either the patent classification system or specific patent numbers. The Published Applications (AppFT) database, a full-text and full-page image database of US patent applications published since March 15, 2001, is also available. Please read and understand the Important Notices and Policies section section of the main Patent Full-Text and Full-Page Image Databases page prior to using either PatFT or AppFT. Help Files are available for each database as well.
Public PAIR (Patent Application Information Retrieval)
http://portal.uspto.gov/external/portal/pair
The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office Public PAIR system includes status, maintenance fee and file history information for United States patents. PDF images of some documents included. Online ordering of patent documents is available.

Google Patent Search is a database of full-text patents issued by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office since 1790. Search by keyword. For current US classification searching, follow the "Advanced Google Patent Search Tips" on the About Google Patent Search page. To determine current US classifications, use the tools available at the USPTO website. Patent applications are not included. Includes images of issued patents in .pdf format. See Google Patent Search Help for more information.
