Search Hints for IKew "Publication Author"
1. For author name searches in IKew:
- Search using wildcard characters (see the database HELP on the toolbar) in order to find all of a given author's records.
- Check APN for the authors name abbreviation (though there is no guarantee that IKew abbreviated the name similarly). For example, Linnaeus is abbreviated both "L." and "Linn." in IKew.
2. If you are using IKew and see a highlighted author link to APN , or vice versa, that link cannot be relied upon in every case since both databases originated in book form, and their writing was not a coordinated effort.
3. Prior to Supplement IX of IKew, the authors of basionyms (the original name for a plant which was later renamed) were not shown in brackets in the entries for new combinations (comb. nov.). For an example of bracketed entry, see record for Cheiranthus graecus.
Search Hints for IKew "Publication" Records
1. To search for a publication date, consult the Publications List.
Prior to Supplement IV of IKew (1906-1910) no publication dates appear for entries.2. To find the full publication title use the
- Publications List, or
- try using HELP on the toolbar to do a Boolean search
- e.g. searching using "Prod" would show all records with "Prod" in the title.
Publication abbreviations in the printed volumes were not standardized. For example, "Prod.," "DC. Prod.," and "DC. Prodr." are three variant abbreviations of Prodromus systematis naturalis regni vegetabilis by A. P. de Candolle.
