Course Reserves at the Natural Sciences Library
(For general UW Course Reserves click
here.)
Reserves Types
The Natural Sciences Library has two different types of Reserves: print and electronic. Print reserves are primarily books or multimedia that may be checked
out at the circulation desk for the length of time you chose on your Reserves
form. Electronic reserves, called eReserves, are online.
Photocopying Guidelines for Electronic Reserves
Instructors
are responsible for monitoring the quality of the photocopies submitted
to the Library. As documents lose some quality when converted to PDF, it is best to provide the highest quality photocopy possible. The UW Copy Centers
are able to produce high-quality copies for eReserves. Library staff are not able to photocopy for eReserves.
Electronic Reserve readings over 30 pages will be divided into two
or more PDFs, clearly labelled for online users. This facilitates
speed and efficiency of printing, especially for dial-up users.
Photocopies of articles to put on eReserves
must meet the following criteria:
- Sharp copies
- No black edges
- Single-sided copies on 8 1/2 x 11 white paper
- Include text from only one article per page
- Materials must be unbound and unstapled (paperclips
OK)
Putting Items on Reserve
All Reserves formats may be submitted at the circulation desk in the Library. Items for eReserve can also be sent as attachments, or on disk.
The form to request that items be placed on Reserve or eReserve can be filled
out and submitted online, or printed, filled out and mailed to: Reserves, Natural Sciences Library,
Box 352900. A form must be filled out and submitted
for each course.
It is your responsibility to be aware of copyright issues, and to
read the UW
Libraries Policy on Copyright and Reserves.
Submission Deadlines
Materials
must be submitted 2 weeks before the first day of the quarter for
eReserves and all other Reserves to be available for the first week of classes.
Materials submitted after these dates will be posted or added to
the Reserves shelves in the order they are received.
Books that
are not owned by the UW Libraries may be ordered if a book list
is provided to the subject librarian at least four weeks before the deadline.
