Transformative Moments and Movements in Southeast Asia
The Cornell University Southeast Asia Program's
5th Annual Graduate Student Symposium
--Call for Papers--
April 4-5, 2003
The Kahin Center for Advanced
Research on Southeast Asia
640 Stewart Ave
Ithaca NY 14850-3857
This year's interdisciplinary Graduate Student Symposium invites an
exploration of the diverse and dynamic ways in which Southeast Asia
has undergone and continues to experience transformative shifts. By
looking at the links between "Moments" and "Movements",
we hope to elucidate what contributes to and challenges our notions
of Southeast Asia, whether through transgressing state, cultural, or
ethnic boundaries, revisiting and reinterpreting historical narratives,
or by looking at how change is being culturally re-presented and discursively
mobilized today.
Prospective presenters are encouraged to send a one-page abstract and
curriculum vitae by February 22, 2003 to: SEAP@cornell.edu. Papers should
be in English with a reading time of no more than 20 minutes.
Small travel grants are available.
