Indochina photographs exhibitionThe Meadows Museum of Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, will host the world premiere exhibition of photographs taken by French artist Jean Despujols in Indochina during the 1930s. A selection of 100 photographs from the collection, characterized by Southeast Asia scholars as "a priceless anthropological record" and "the single most complete collection of such work available," will serve to contextualize the paintings from Despujols' Indochina Collection--the largest body of French colonial painting in the world. Speakers (dates to be announced) include Louise Cort, Curator, Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution; Leedom Lefferts, Professor of Anthropology, Drew University: and John Stubbs, Vice-President for Programs, World Monuments Fund. The exhibition, curated by D.A. Kress, Associate Curator of the Meadows Museum, will run from September 7 through December 30, 1997.
