International Conference on Viet Nam Studies and the Enhancement of International CooperationSelected papers of the Conference will be published in CD ROM format, according to recent communications from Prof. Phan Huy Le. Reports of the conference Organiser? This conference was jointly organised by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and the National Centre for Social and Human Sciences in Vietnam (NCSHS), with professional and technical assistance from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, and principally sponsored by the Ford Foundation. Conference Objectives? The conference aims to present research work on Vietnamese studies carried out locally as well as overseas in order to understand Vietnam more and enhance the international co-operation. It also aims at creating an international mechanism to co-ordinate and assist the study of Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies. Who Should Attend? The conference aims to invite the attendance of teachers, researchers and experts in Vietnamese studies from various schools, colleges, universities and research institutes. School administrators, educational policy makers, community leasers and scholars are also encouraged to attend. Conference Topics for Consideration? Suggested topics are: tradition and modernity, traditional culture and inter-cultures, socio-economic development; villages, rural areas, and farmers; family, women and population; urban and the ecological environment; languages in Vietnam and the teaching of Vietnamese; international co-operation in the field of Vietnamese studies. Call for papers: The organising committee invites the submission of papers to be considered for presentation at the conference. All papers selected for presentation will be printed in the conference proceedings. Conference Abstracts and Papers: (1) Abstracts of no more than 350 words are required by 31st January 1998 and final papers by 24th April 1998; and (2) Final papers not exceeding 4500 words, will be required in camera ready format on computer disk for PC. All abstracts and papers will need to be sent to the Conference Organising Committee in Vietnam Conference Fee: With major assistance from the Ford foundation and contribution from other funding sources, the conference fee is US$100 and US$50 for students. The costs cover welcome reception buffet, and afternoon teas, conference lunches, conference dinner, admission to all sessions, translation and conference abstracts. Contact Address?
