Michigan Quarterly Review
Vietnam Beyond the Frame
Thirty years have passed since the end of what is popularly known in
America as the Vietnam War. Though it was a seminal event for many,
particularly in the U.S., the war was only part of an immense span of
history.
In this special issue of Michigan Quarterly Review, we seek to explore
the multidimensionality of what has often been mistakenly considered
a homogeneous "Vietnamese experience." We invite you to contribute
to this issue, which will serve as a forum for scholars of various academic
disciplines, creative writers, and visual artists to express their knowledge
of and relationship to Viet Nam, through historical, anthropological,
literary, or other imaginative means. We seek previously unpublished
scholarly and personal essays, memoirs, interviews, fiction, poetry,
book reviews, and graphic works, as well as works that push at the boundaries
of these genres.
Michigan Quarterly Review's annual special issues are aimed at a general
intellectual audience accustomed to the challenges of interdisciplinary
writings. Special issues have been reprinted by university presses in
book form, and we anticipate this outcome for Viet Nam: Beyond the Frame.
Manuscripts should be sent to the MQR office no later than February
15, 2004 (include self-addressed stamped envelope). Queries should be
addressed to the editors at mqr@umich.edu.
An honorarium of ten dollars per page will be paid upon publication.
Viet Nam: Beyond the Frame will be available in Fall 2004.
We hope that you will contribute your unique perspective to our understanding
of Viet Nam, the country and the people.
Sincerely,
Rebekah Linh Collins and Barbara Tran
