Convention of Vietnamese American NGODate: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 13:37:39 -0700 Greetings to all, Hope this e-mail finds you all well. What we've tentatively planned for is a gathering of Vietnamese American NGOs/groups that have been funding/supporting or running programs &projects in Vietnam. It will be more of a meeting/retreat type than a convention. We are anticipating between 80 - 100 individuals to attend, by open invitation. It will be in May at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove/Monterey, CA. The goals &objective, which have not been set in stone, at this point are for folks to meet &share information and experience. What will come out of the meeting may range from forming a network of Vietnamese American NGOs for the purposes of potential collaboration, resources pooling, and collective actions in response to flood relief, sustainable development policies in Vietnam and US/EU/Japan/Australia international aid's directions & implementation, etc.. Ultimately, the people at this gathering will determine the outcome. There have been a few informal meetings &conference calls among a handful of California-based groups &chu Doan Phung of Tennessee. We do intend to open this process to a wider national reach. For those in Canada, we have decided to limit this first gathering to groups that are based in the US for the sake of our commonality. But of course we will keep our Canadian cousins in the loop, and hopefully, they will be part of subsequent gatherings. As chu Phung's e-mail indicated, we would like to have a better picture of who is who and where, so please forward your contacts to us. I would like to gather the following information if possible. Invitation will go out to all the groups. Name of organization I understand some organizations do not have telephone/fax number, except the founder's/president's private number. That's fine, we do not need to include the phone number on the shared list. Hope that answers some of your questions. Thank you very much. Regards, Sonny Le |
