(GUAVA)
CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

GUAVA Annual Meeting and Workshop
University of Washington
Saturday, August 21, 2004
9 AM to 5 PM

Proposals are invited for individual papers for a one-day workshop on the teaching and learning of the Vietnamese language. Proposals should include the description of the topic and the name of the presenter.

Each proposed presentation should address issues that relate to and should fall within or more of the workshop themes of the teaching and learning of the Vietnamese language.
Proposals might include:
· Use of technology in instructional programs.
· Innovative instructional materials for teaching
Vietnamese to heritage and non-heritage students.
· Teaching Vietnamese tones and sounds to
non-heritage students.

Individual presentations are 20 minutes long and can be made either in Vietnamese or in English.

Proposals may not exceed half a page in length and should be sent to the following address by June 15, 2004 by hard copy or email attachment:

The authors of the proposals will be informed by June 30, 2004, of the Committee's decision.

Dear GUAVA members,

The Annual Meeting of GUAVA will be held at the University of Washington in Seattle on August 20
and 21, 2004. The members of the Executive Board should arrive on August 18, and all the other
members should arrive on August 19. The tentative agenda of the meeting is as follows.

August 20 (Friday): GUAVA meeting begins.

* Discussions, decisions concerning the activities of GUAVA and VASI;
* Presidents' account of the new VASI "saga";
* Field Directors' report(s);
* Students' evaluations;
* Treasurer's annual report;
* Election of new Treasurer;
* P.I.'s report;
* VASI 2005;
* etc...

August 21 (Saturday) : Workshop on Teaching and Learning Vietnamese and Report of the Proficiency Guidelines project.

August 22 (Sunday): GUAVA meeting ends.
As in previous years, GUAVA will provide room and board for the duration of the meeting. The
information about lodging will be sent to you later.
