The International Convention of Asian Scholars' 5th biennial conference
call for papers has been issued on its website (forms to apply are

Early bird registration deadline is "before 1 April 2007".

CALL FOR PAPERS

Kuala Lumpur, 2-5 August 2007

The Institute of Occidental Studies (IKON) and the Institute of Malay
World and Civilization (ATMA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia are pleased
to announce the Fifth International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 5).
ICAS 5 offers an excellent opportunity for networking with scholars and
sharing in the latest developments in Asia. Please do consider joining us
either as participant, exhibitor or as an observer. For participants,
please follow the instructions stated below. As for observers, please fill
in the Observer Form.

The venue for ICAS 5 is the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) situated
at the centre of Kuala Lumpur 's central business district. The KLCC is
the city's most technologically-advanced purpose-built facility for
international and regional conventions and public exhibitions. Designed as
a city within a city and it offers a stimulation environment with views
overlooking the KLCC Park and the landmark PETRONAS Twin Towers. The Kuala
Lumpur Convention Centre also enjoys a prestigious location alongside
extensive public transport and a wide range of hotels.

Submission of abstracts

Interested indviduals, panel organizers, and institutions are welcome to
sumbit their abstracts.

How to submit your abstract

* The preferred mode for the submisstion of your abstract is online,
through this website. Please use these forms Individual Abstract,
Organised Panel, Institutional Panel, the explanation of these categories

* If you cannot acces the form, please email the details stated below to
info@icas5kl.com.

Your abstract submission should include:
- Contact details
- Title of paper (s)
- Theme (see below)
- Abstract(s) (500 words)
- Short bio (200 words)
- Request for audiovidual equipment
- Any other comments
- Any dietary preferences (vegetarian/non-vegetarian).
For panel organizers, also include:
- Names, contact details and abstracts panel participants
- Names, contact details chair or discussant
For institutitonal panel organizers, also include:
- Name hosting institution

types of submission

There are three categories of abstract submission, namely submissions by
individuals, groups and institutions.

Individual Abstract: Scholars who submit a single abstract dealing with
any topic that falls within the scope provided by the organisers.
After receival of all individual abstracts, they will be grouped in panels
according to discipline, theme or region. Once your abstract has been
accepted you will receive details regarding the placement of your
abstract: title panel, details other participants and - at a later stage -
the timing of your panel. A chair is appointed who will jointly with the
participants construe a panel abstract and -if need be - revise the title
of the panel. Should you be interested in becoming a panel chair (which
means that in the panel you will both be presenter and chair), please send
an email to info@icas5kl.com.

Organised Panel: Organised Panels are panels formed by a group of scholars
who will present their papers within one or more sessions. Please note
that the panel time-slots are two hours, hence a panel should have 3 or 4
paper presenters and a chair or discussant. Should you have more
participants, please divide the panel into two-hour time slots and submit
the panels seperately. Should they have excactly the same panel title,
please include the addition "panel I, panel II".

Institutional Panel: Institutional panels are sponsored by various
organisations studying Asia in the broadest sense including Asia's
bilateral and multilateral relations and diaspora. Please note that the
panel time-slots are two hours, hence a panel should have 3 or 4 paper
presenters and a chair or discussant. Should you have more participants,
please divide the panel into two-hour time slots and submit the panels
seperately. Should they have excactly the same panel title, please include
the addition "panel I, panel II".

Selection of THEME

Sharing a Future in Asia is the main theme of ICAS 5. Panels at ICAS 5
are categorised into the following Sub-Themes/Disciplines, please select
one when submitting your abstract:

o Arts, Culture and Heritage
o Development and Urbanization
o Documentation, Resource Management and Technology
o Economy, Business and Law
o Environment and Energy
o History
o Knowledge and Philosophy
o Language and Literature
o Media and Communication
o Politics and International Relations
o Religion
o Society and Identity
o Welfare and Health

Deadline for organised and institutional panels submission

15 December 2006

Confirmation letter of accepted abstracts including invitation letter will
be sent

15 December 2006

Confirmation organised and institutional panels including invitation
letter will be sent
