From Gilles de Gantes:
I am organizing, with Dr Nguyen Phuong Ngoc (who
teaches Vietnamese Language in Universite de Provence, Aix) a
conference dedicated to that very moment of opening in
Vietnamese History, between 1904 and 1908, the Duy Tan
movement whose main symbol (but not the only one) was the Dong
Kinh Nghia Thuc. As Patricia Pelley has suggest, the time when
"teleologies" (and I would add: representations) seemed
sufficient to explain the whole Vietnamese History has come to
an end.
The main topic of our conference is connected with micro
storia and the French social history tradition around the
works of Michel Vovelle and Maurice Agulhon.
At this point, our program is quite closed, but we
are open to any proposition which could enrich
our conference, especially for the southern side of the
modernist movement which is not so well known.
