Job Opportunities for International Teachers at Hanoi Academy
Academic Year 2010/2011
Main features of Hanoi Academy
Hanoi Academy is a modern, private (Vietnamese funded), co-educational
school in Ciputra International City. Hanoi Academy offers
Vietnamese-English bilingual education from Kindergarten (18 months
and older) through primary, secondary and high school level (in
2010/2011, up to grade 10) to Vietnamese children in Hanoi. Our
Academic Program combines the Vietnamese core curriculum with
International standards. Next to the English literacy program, the
subjects Math, Science, ICT and International Studies are taught in
English or team-taught by International and Vietnamese teachers in
both languages. International learning experiences and assessments
gradually prepare our students for further education either at home or
abroad. Hanoi Academy is a Member of the Council of International
Schools (CIS) and offers an International program that is licensed by
the Australian education authorities in Queensland.
Teacher profile
We are looking for International Teachers who are either:
- Certified as pre-school/nursery/Kindergarten teacher, experienced in
Early Childhood Education and Early English for children aged 2-5, and
able to support general methodological and pedagogical faculty
development;
- Certified as primary school teacher, able to teach a range of
subjects in International English, partially in cooperation with
Vietnamese teachers, to children aged 6-11;
- Certified as secondary/high school teacher to Math, Science
(Biology/Chemistry/Physics), ICT and/or International Studies (a
combination of Geography/History/Social Studies/Life Skills) to
students aged 12-17;
- Certified as secondary/high school teacher to teach an English
literacy program, preferably with EFL/ESL experience/certificate, must
be a native English speaker, experienced in teaching students (not
only adults), and familiar with international assessment schemes.
All positions can be either full-time or part-time; teachers on
sabbatical or early retirement are also welcome to apply. School year
positions in general are available for one year or longer (with some
possibilities for one semester, mid August to mid December or
beginning of January to end of May). The Academic Year 2010/2011
begins on Monday, August 16, 2010
We expect our Faculty to be:
- Enthusiastic about contributing to a bilingual school model;
- Creative in designing learning materials, using multimedia
resources, and delivering student-centered, interactive lessons;
- Committed to the achievement of excellent learning results;
- Caring for the well-being of each child;
- Able to cooperate well in a multicultural team.
Our Vietnamese faculty covers the basic teaching program as required
by the Vietnamese educational authorities, which means International
teachers get the unique chance but also the challenge to add modern
methods and specific contents to the program.
We welcome other specific talents or interests that you could bring to
our school (e.g. extracurricular sports/music/arts teaching,
experience in teacher training/coaching etc.).
Student-teachers can apply for internship (Assistant Teacher)
positions. Interns receive a monthly contribution to their housing
costs but have to cover their own travel costs to Vietnam and general
living expenses. Internships will be supervised by the International
Academic Director and/or Department Heads (who have post-graduate
degrees in education). Supervisors from the home university/teacher
training college are welcome to visit our school and/or cooperate
online.
Working conditions
The salary allows for a good standard of life within Vietnam
(unfortunately only for teachers without school-aged children; the
tuition fees of international schools in Hanoi are very high. Young
accompanying children can attend our bilingual Kindergarten at a
reduced rate). Teachers can sign up for a health insurance plan. We
assist candidates from overseas with visa/work permit procedures,
finding housing in Hanoi and other practical concerns.
In general, teachers are in school from Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm,
teach a maximum of 25 lessons per week and have access to individual
working space with laptop and internet connection for class
preparations and other tasks. Work schedules for teachers with
specific assignments can differ. During the school year, teachers are
expected to continue their professional development and to actively
participate in team meetings.
Application procedure
Please send your CV together with a cover letter (that explains for
which position you apply, in how far you meet the teacher profile, and
why you are interested in teaching at our school and in Vietnam) in
the English language, as well as scanned copies of your
diplomas/degrees/teacher certificate and your passport (comprised
attachments, total max. 2 MB) by email to:
international@hanoiacademy.edu.vn.
Candidates who fulfill the requirements and live in Vietnam will be
invited to a job interview in Hanoi with our International Academic
Director and/or Department Heads. Candidates who apply from overseas
will be invited to online interviews with webcam through Skype. Please
state in the cover letter where you are located and when and for which
period you are available.
