Greetings!
I am a statistician working on issues related to living standards in Vietnam, and I got interested in the phenomenon of Tet expenditures and how much of a burden it represents for households.
Does anyone happen to know of any studies (quantitative or qualitative) of this issue? I wonder if there might be some sociological principles at work here that I might be able to test with the Vietnam data we have available.
If you are aware of any articles that would be relevant, I would be most grateful if you could let me know.
With many thanks, and best regards,

On the issue of Tet prices, my housemate-- Tino Tran (tino.tran@csli.stanford.edu)-- has just noticed that Ben Thanh market is posting prices daily on a wide range of food items on a big board onsite. He has decided to have a person at the market fill in forms on a daily basis on these prices, which he will then scan into a database that he's going to make available online. Should be a perfect source of information for such a study.
