Subject: Vietnam - China Land Border agreement

Hi everyone,

I am doing a research on the Vietnam- China Land Border, especially the recent agreement betwenn the two governments for my Politcal Geography research thesis. It's likely that there is not many of documents on this "sensitive" issue. Could anyone help me in finding those documents especially the ones related to the recent agreement?

I am also interested in documents regarding territorial issues in the Tonkin Gulf, Spratly and Paracel island chains as well.

Thanks a lot.

Henry

Hi Henry,

Sorry I can't help you with documents, but some secondary sources are sure to provide leads.

On the Paracels, see Stein Tonnesson's excellent studies, including:

"The Paracels: The Other south China Sea Dispute" Asian
Perspectives 26:4 (2002) Special issue on China-ASEAN
relations.

and

Stein Tonnesson, "An International History of the Dispute
in the South China Sea" East Asia Institute working Paper
#71 ( Singapore, March 16, 2001), reprinted in Timo
Kivimaki, ed War or Peace in the South China Sea?
( Copenhagen: NIAS Press, 2002).

Best wishes,

Eric

Henry,
There're a lot done on this issue. I will recommend a work here from which you will be able to get a lot of other references:

Carlyle A. Thayer and Ramses Amer (eds).1999. Vietnamese Foreign Policy in Transition. Singapore: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Email:publish@iseas.edu.sg

Perspectives of papers in this publication are neutral and some forecasts are surprisingly accurate, esp. with respect to Chinese major policies after 2000.

** Hoang t. Dieu -Hien and Quang Minh: Thanks for the websites. This info. will be given to non-Vietnamese editors dealing with manuscripts with Vietnamese words. Certainly very helpful of both of you. Cam on nhieu...

Best wishes,

Grace
