Horses in pre-modern Vietnam

Subject: [Vsg] Horses in pre-modern Vietnam

Dear VSG-listers

Would members have any suggestions as to any studies or source materials on the horse in Vietnam/Champa pre-1600. Any references to horse trading or to utilization of the animals for warfare, ceremony, sport or economic uses would be very useful.

Many thanks,

Geoff Wade

Dear Geoff

I remember that a few years ago, William Gervase Clarence-Smith
(History, SOAS) was collecting data on horses in SEA. I know he has
published one or two papers on the topic since, perhaps also a book.
Could be worth contacting him.

Best

Hi Geoff,
Good to hear from you. I will send you any pictures and info of horses on Cham sculptures. I am right now in Hanoi, will do that next week!
Warm regards to your family!
Yours,
Ky
