The Special Collections Division provides bibliographic instruction for University of Washington classes in a wide variety of subject specialties and disciplines. Curators and subject specialists offer general instruction on how to use the collections; on specific themes, formats, authors and historical periods; and in research methods. Class presentations are often a good method to introduce students, especially undergraduates, to the resources of the Division.

Classes may be arranged by faculty, teaching assistants or individual students by contacting the appropriate curator or subject specialist. Sessions may be scheduled for regular class meeting times or as an additional class. Because the Division does a substantial number of class presentations each quarter, and space to do presentations is at a premium, it is important to plan ahead and schedule a session as far in advance as possible. Several weeks is helpful; scheduling before the beginning of quarter is preferred.

Staff in Special Collections also mentor students, arrange for directed fieldwork experiences or independent study opportunities and work with individual students in a variety of ways to enhance their education experience. Contact a curator or subject specialist to discuss this possibility.
