Usability Card Sorting Test Plan

  • Purpose
    • To make navigation on the Gateway easy, intuitive, and user-friendly.
  • Problem Statement/Test Objectives
    • To determine how a variety of users organize the features of the Gateway.
    • To determine the significance of the features on the Gateway and identify what should have prominence.
    • To determine the words users use to describe features.
  • User Profile
    • There will be eight participants in the card sorting test.
    • 2 Undergrads, 2 Grads, 2 staff, 2 Faculty
    • Each pair will include one experienced user and one inexperienced user

    1. Rate the importance of each of the features indicated on the index cards
      - Critical, Very Important, Important, Slightly Important, Unimportant
    2. While rating the importance of the features, describe what each feature does.
    3. Organize the features into categories
    4. Name the categories; discuss alternate organizations
    5. Suggest alternate names for features and indicate omitted features.
  • Test Environment/Equipment
    • Tests will take place in the Library Systems conference room with two sets of note cards.
