Up to 19.5 hours per week


Under the general supervision of the Research Data Services Librarian, the student chosen for this position will assist in various projects undertaken by the SCP Unit. Duties may include:

    • Contributing to outreach support for the University Libraries in areas related to scholarly communication and publishing (i.e. Research Data Management, Digital Repositories, Open Access, Copyright), including presentations, drop-in office hours, answering reference questions online and in-person, etc.
    • Assisting with development and presentation of SCP curriculum to be integrated into classrooms
    • Creating and/or updating online subject guides and other LibGuides on various scholarly communication topics
    • Communicating news and information related to data management on the Data Services blog and Twitter
    • Sharing best practices and stories celebrating open scholarship on the Open@UW blog
    • Marketing and social media support in areas of scholarly communications
    • Research on developments in areas of scholarly communication, and creating and/or updating related annotated bibliographies
    • Attending planning meetings for appropriate work teams and committees

      Required Qualifications:

      • B.A./B.S. degree
      • Ability to explain complex procedures in written and multimedia formats
      • Experience or interest in issues of scholarly communication/research data management
      • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
      • Capacity to quickly learn and adapt to new and emerging technologies

      Desired Qualifications:

      • Experience in creating and preparing multimedia (images, audio and/or video) for the web
      • Knowledge of or experience with web development or online instructional design
      • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in marketing and outreach, and facility with social media as an outreach and marketing tool
