Guidelines for Selecting Cartoons
- Look through the domestic and foreign newspapers listed on the back of this sheet. These newspapers should be familiar to you because they are included in your newspaper processing section. Although the elections were held on specific dates, they were in the news for weeks, months, sometimes years. We can’t possibly look through everything, so please focus on the time periods listed for each election.
- Find cartoons that express a message about the elections listed below. Try to find cartoons that present all viewpoints, such as "conservative" "liberal" "pro" "con"
- Some of the newspapers will be on microfilm. Some of the papers will be in print (located near the current newspaper display shelves, in the sub-basement, or in the ULMP processing area).
- Make a photocopy of each cartoon. If on microfilm, use the bypass key. If in print, ask Barbara or Jessica about the staff photocopier.
- Fill out and attach one Citation Form to EACH and EVERY cartoon.
- As you work on this project, please leave the cartoons on your assigned shelf (located across from the lockers).

Nov. 30: The secretary of state certifies the result of the machine recount, making Rossi the winner by 42 votes.
Dec. 23: Gregoire wins a final, hand recount by 129 votes, the smallest percentage margin of any governor's election in national history.
Jan. 7: Rossi announces he will challenge the election in Chelan County Superior Court.
Jan. 12: Gregoire is inaugurated.
May 23: The two-week election challenge trial begins.
June 6: Judge John Bridges rejects Rossi's case, dismissing his election challenge petition with prejudice.
