Faculty Workshop on Open Textbooks at UW, April 21

Explore equity, access and innovation at Libraries three-part workshop on textbook publishing

UW Faculty are invited to University Libraries three-part workshop on open textbook publishing on April 21, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Odegaard Library room 220.

Explore the evolving landscape of open textbook publishing, share your own experiences creating or using open educational resources (not limited to textbooks), and learn what support is available from UW Libraries to create Open Educational Resources (OER) to increase affordability and accessibility for students.

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. UW Open Textbook Publishing

Join two UW open textbook authors:

  • Justin Marlowe, Endowed Professor of Public Finance and Civic Engagement, and Associate Dean for Executive Education, Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy and Governance
  • Sarah Ketchley, Ph.D., Egyptology, Digital Humanities Dept., Near Eastern Languages and Civilization

who, with support from UW Libraries, are exploring new open modes of textbook publishing that could transform higher education by enhancing equity of access to course materials while simultaneously opening the door to innovative pedagogies.

12:00 noon – 12:45 p.m. Lunch and Conversations: Affordability and Equity

Lunch provided. A facilitated conversation to explore how Open Textbooks, Open Educational Resources, and Open Pedagogies can be used as tools toward equity in the classroom.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Writing a Review for the Open Textbook Library

For faculty who are interested in reviewing a textbook in their area of expertise in the Open Textbook Library. $200 stipend for a completed reviews submitted online by July 1, 2017.

Online registration is required to attend the workshop.

There is no cost for UW Faculty. Attendance may be at one or more sessions. Lunch and beverages are included.

This workshop is sponsored by the UW Libraries Open Educational Resources Steering Committee, which includes representation by faculty, students, and staff in UW academic support units.
