Beginning in 1990, the UW Libraries provided access to the Library Catalog
and most bibliographic databases through a series of locally-developed
user interfaces (Willow) which used BRS database software and data
structures. The advantages at the time were:
- provided a simple, powerful user interface to most online resources
- provided a single network of X-terminals which were relatively
inexpensive and easy to maintain
- later Willow development included ASCII, Mac and Windows versions thus
facilitating a wider user base
- local control allowed for match on ISSN links to local holdings
The Library catalog was maintained in the Libraries' Innovative Interface
system and exported weekly to a BRS database.
