Introduction

The University of Washington Libraries is an international leader in imagining, creating, and realizing the promise of the 21st century academic research library. Our mission to advance discovery and connect people with knowledge remains constant. We recognize that the unprecedented technological, demographic, and economic challenges facing higher education and academic libraries demand transformational change and new models of service. New tools now available enable us to meet changing scholarly and learning needs and find efficiencies.

Strategic Directions

Our Strategic Directions are based on assessment of user and institutional needs, a multi-institutional approach to providing world-class collections and services, and investment in staff resources. The first four serve as our four cardinal points as we move ahead. The fifth one highlights the importance of developing and investing in staff resources and new ways of working; it underlies and enables the other Strategic Directions.
