75th Anniversary and Reopening Celebration

Trombone Choir, under the direction of Don Immel, School of Music, plays a processional march. Professor Ronald Moore, the University Marshal, carrying the official mace. Part of the academic procession down the center aisle of the Reading Room.
Former President McCormick, giving his remarts at this, his last public appearance as President of the University of Washington. In the audience on the left are architects fro the Suzzallo Project, Rich Cardwell, David Swenson, Stan Lonseth, and David Strauss. Pictured on the right hand side are two former University Libraries Directors, Betty Bengtson and Merle Boylan. Washington State Senator Ken Jacobsen is seated directly behind Ms. Bengtson. Provost Lee Huntsman, (shortly thereafter named Interim President of the University of Washington).
Betsy Wilson, Director of University Libraries. Members of the UW Chamber Singers perform, under the direction of Geoffrey Boers, School of Music.
Approximately 600 people attended the celebration. Professor Emeritus Norman Johnston, School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Linda Bierds, Professor and Poet, Department of English. Her poem, There, was written for the occasion.
   
The celebration ends with the recessional.
