Life After UWIN
Why are things changing?
- WWW has become the de facto development platform for a range of information services.
- Many new resources, especially fulltext, are only available via the WWW.
- Vendors are putting their resources into developing and improving WWW products.
- By leveraging the common WWW desktop, the University Libraries can deliver
more services to campus.
- Market has changed over the 10 years since we began our database program. We can
now buy much of what we formerly had to build locally.
- Our locally-developed clients can access an ever-decreasing percentage of the resources
we license.
- Local client development and maintenance is expensive, and new features often lag behind what
vendors can offer.
