Present: Andrea Kueter, Charles Lord, Dal Symes, Gary Menges, Jane Shoop, Marie Zimmermann.
The Board meeting minutes of 8/6/99 passed with no changes.
A majority of the meeting was taken up with the continuing discussion of the question, mandated by ACRL National, of whether the Chapter should incorporate independently or become an interest group of the Washington Library Association (WLA). At the upcoming Chapter business meeting Gary will present the option of incorporating independently and Marie will present the option of becoming an interest group of WLA. Marie indicated that we do not have the option of negotiating a reciprocal arrangement with WLA because that wouldn’t address the need to be either incorporated or be a part of an incorporated state association. The Board decided that after the preliminary presentations and discussion at the Chapter business meeting there could be further discussion on the ACRL-NW list, and then they would reconvene to decide which course of action to propose to the membership, based on the tenor of the group discussions. It was hoped that the list discussion would commence quickly and that comments could be gathered by November 30th. The deadline for becoming incorporated or for associating with WLA is the end of the year 2000.
A nominating committee comprised of Lynn Kanne (SCCC), Carol Green (UW) and Margaret Fast (WWU) was proposed. These individuals will be asked to serve and a committee chair will be named. Members of the nominating committee must be members of ACRL National.
Helene found two candidates who are interested and willing to serve as the new newsletter editor, Kathleen Forsythe from the University of Washington (Seattle) and Brenda Philip from the University of Washington (Tacoma). It was decided that Kathleen would be asked to serve as the new newsletter editor and Brenda would be asked to serve as the Chapter web page developer and editor. Additionally, that they be asked to work closely together to work towards delivering the newsletter, and other Chapter information, in an electronic format.
The Central Washington University library has agreed to host the Chapter web page. John Creech at CWU is willing to assist in developing and publishing the page.
Andrea has received current membership lists from the WLA and from ACRL National. It was decided that she would, at least, contact those members of ACRL National who are not currently paying dues to the Chapter to try to encourage them to do so.
The Fall 2000 WA/OR ACRL conference will be held at Menucha, the dates are not yet known. The Fall 2001 WA/OR ACRL conference will be held at Pack Forest on October 18 and 19. There will be one more session of the Librarian as Educator workshops, possibly held in the spring in Bellevue.
The next Board meeting will be held after the first of the year. Dal will propose dates and a location when he deems a meeting is necessary.
Respectfully Submitted
Andrea Kueter
