1. The majority of the meeting was taken up with continuing the discussion from the Business Meeting regarding programming in the spring. Marie Zimmermann reported that CLAMS is working on sponsoring a series of workshops on ‘Information Competencies,’ and that they would be interested in working with ACRL/WA on them. The Board decided to pursue this rather than a pre-conference at WLA. Marie will coordinate.
2. There also was continued discussion of better ways to communicate with the membership and ways to encourage new membership. One communication suggestion was to sign all current members up on the ACRL/NW listserv since we have member e-mail addresses. Some Board members had reservations about doing this, and no firm conclusion was reached. As a first step towards encouraging additional ‘paid’ membership Andrea Kueter will pursue getting a list of ACRL National members who live in Washington state. According to our bylaws all ACRL National members who reside in Washington are automatically chapter members, and so should be added to our mailing list. Currently we rely on members to self identify themselves.
3. Several members reported that, after the first flurry of activity from National, we are now on stand-by with regards to their attempts to reconfigure their relationship with Chapters. No action is necessary on this front until/unless National makes some official decisions.
4. Marie reported that WLA has restructured their ‘Legislative Committee,’ and will no longer be asking for an official representative from ACRL. Chapter bylaws will need to be amended to reflect this. Marie will be serving on the WLA Legislative Committee this year, and will report their activity to us, however we are not guaranteed that in future years one of our members will be on the Committee.
5. There will be a Board meeting in December. No date was specified.
