Libraries Cabinet - Statement of Purpose

The Libraries Cabinet is the University Libraries' senior leadership group. Cabinet members exercise their individual knowledge, strengths, and perspectives to provide leadership and advocate for the entire Libraries organization. Cabinet members are also responsible for ensuring that the Libraries fulfills its commitment to provide equitable resources and services to the University's three campuses.

The Cabinet functions as a collaborative team that advances the mission, vision, and values of the Libraries. The Cabinet sets and affirms the strategic directions of the Libraries as part of the strategic planning process and ensures that resources and structures are aligned with the strategic priorities. The Cabinet accomplishes this by making informed decisions as to policy and priorities, allocating resources, and communicating with Libraries staff.

As individuals and as a group, the Cabinet maintains a future-oriented perspective, regularly scans the environment for developments affecting libraries and higher education, and shares that information with the group, with other Libraries staff, and with the UW leadership.

The Cabinet and its decisions positively influence organizational culture by modeling the values articulated in the Libraries Strategic Plan and other statements of professional principles, values and ethics; and by rewarding behaviors and activities that support Libraries strategic goals. The Cabinet pays particular attention to staff and organization development.

Cabinet members are the principal stewards for Libraries resources and are accountable for ensuring that resources are used wisely and effectively to meet the information needs of our users. Cabinet members also play a leadership role in coordinating Libraries development and other revenue-generating activities.
