Card Catalogue

Because the on-line system may not always identify plays appearing in collections and anthologies, the Drama Library staff provides indexing of plays. We are converting this information to a database but at present the best way to search for plays is in the card catalogue by title.

Card Catalogue Information

• author
• play title
• book or magazine where the play appears
• call number -- includes the volume and issue number on magazines
• translator --provided on plays indexed since 1976

Wilson Play Index (Online)

The Wilson Play Index offers the most complete indexing. (Now online!) This index includes information on plays published from 1949. Each volume covers a four year period but may have a lag-time of one to two years before publication. The index provides searching in the following categories:

• author
• title
• subject
• cast analysis (includes size and sex of cast )

Reference Indexes

The Reference collection contains a variety of volumes which identify plays not available in the Drama Library. Some indexes specialize in a particular format or subject matter, e.g. one-act plays or children's plays.
