Sound Effects Collection

The Drama Library purchases a variety of sound effects which assist pre-show and theatrical productions. Our collection includes sound effects on CD as well as cassette and reel-to-reel tape. These sound effects are used for productions by the School of Drama as well as by other departments on campus and various Seattle and Puget Sound theatre companies.

Indexing of sound effects by the Drama Library staff includes information in the following areas:

sound (subject)
description of sound
length of sound (in minutes and seconds)
series title (if the sound is part of a series of tapes or CDs)
distributor (who produced the sound effect)

Library Use Only Sound Effects on CD

The Library owns a large portion of sound effects available from Sound Ideas, which offers a buy-out option allowing the library user copyright free duplication of a sound for production purposes. We currently own the following items from the Sound Ideas Series:

Many of the above Sound Ideas series were purchased through gifts from Paul Allen or the Friends of the Library.

In addition to the Sound Ideas sound effects, which are library use only, the Drama Library has a limited number of CD sound effects which circulate.

Sound Effects which circulate for one week

Sound effects, which do not offer a buy-out policy, circulate for one week. These sound effects are available in a variety of formats including CDs, cassette, and reel-to-reel tape.

Sound Effects on Cassette

Sound effects on cassette circulate for one week. Cassette tapes include individual produced tapes with a single interest, e.g., Halloween sounds to tapes produced as part of a series and focus on specific sounds, e.g., nature sounds, birds, or ambience sounds.
