The Chinese Collection of the University of Washington Libraries is devoted to Chinese-language research materials in all formats, but mainly in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Works published in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and some other areas are collected. In conjunction with the Chinese-language holdings of the Gallagher Law Library, the Chinese Collection of the University of Washington Libraries plays an important role in supporting all China-related teaching, learning, and research activities at the University of Washington.

The Tateuchi East Asia Library holds over 321,616 volumes of Chinese printed materials as of June 2019; the collection also includes graphical, audiovisual, and electronic resources such as online databases. Some of the collection's areas of strength include: Chinese classical studies; local gazetteers on the southwest region; materials on the Guangdong Delta region; works by and on Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao; material on Chinese dialects and ethnic minorities; population census; yearbooks; and statistical data.
