Finding Materials in EAL
There are two main catalogs in the East Asia Library which are necessary for locating materials: the online catalog and the card catalog. We suggest that users make it a habit to search the online catalog first and then consult the card catalog for items not found.
EAL Card Catalog
The card catalog is located in the reading room and can be easily identified by small signs which read "Main Catalog." It contains many records which have been converted to electronic form and are now also in the online catalog. Approximately 20% of the library's total holdings are represented only in the card catalog. Cards for vernacular materials are not duplicated in the main library's old card catalog.
Author, title, and subject cards are filed in one alphabetical sequence. All filing entries are in romanized form.
Other Catalogs
The Tibetan Catalog
The Tibetan card catalog (for materials in the Tibetan language) is located behind the main catalog, opposite Room #320.
