Finding Books
Is it in the UW Libraries' Collection?
The primary source for finding books at any of the
University of Washington Libraries is the
UW
Libraries Catalog. This database of almost 2 million titles lists the
library unit, location within that unit, and whether the item is currently checked
out. In addition, you may consult the
Engineering Library New
Books List, a weekly update of titles added to the Engineering Library.
Is it at another Library?
There are many sources for searching for items not held by the University
of Washington Libraries, such as:
- Books in Print, (1979-), an index of books printed and distributed in the U.S.
- OCLC
WorldCat, a database of over 30 millions records from libraries
around the world
- Other libraries' online catalogs
How do I get a book that is not held by the UW Libraries?
If the book that you are looking for is not in the UW Libraries
collection, you can:
- Check the Orbis Cascade Alliance
catalog to see if the material is available at another Washington or Oregon academic library. Orbis Cascade Alliance borrowing privileges are limited to current UW students, faculty and staff.
- Request to have the item borrowed from another institution through
UWorld Express.
-
Request that the Libraries purchase the item, via the Purchase Request Form
