The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) serves as the nation's clearinghouse for research and development results and other information produced by and for the U.S. Government. The information covered includes more than 375 scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related subjects.
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) provides
WWW access to NTIS at the University of Washington from
1964-present. It is available through any campus IP Address, so any campus computer
with WWW access is allowed. From home, faculty,
students and staff can connect via the UW Modem Pool or Proxy Server.

To perform a keyword search, enter the word(s) or phrase(s) that best describe your topic and click [Submit]. Use operators to combine search terms, such as: AND , OR, NOT, or ADJ (Adjacent) - retreives items next to or near each other, in the order specified.
Use the author line to search for the author's name. Be aware that NTIS only uses the authors first initials so you should not search on the first name.
Used for translating the Report or Contract Number into the NTIS Accession number.
Enter the number with the spacing intact and replace all
punctuation with spaces.
Search : EPA/600/S-95/011 as epa 600 s 95 011
Search : NASA CR-4662 as nasacr 4662
You can limit your search to a specific field in the NTIS records. Enter the field tag followed by a colon and your search criteria ( Ex. au:smith ). Common field tags include ti for title and au for author. For a complete list of fields available for searching and the two-letter tags associated with those fields, consult Advanced Help at any time within CSA's NTIS database.
To find variant word forms or spellings, use an asterisk(*) at the end of a word or word stem. An asterisk will retrieve an unlimited number of characters at the end of a search term.
Finding technical reports at UW
To find NTIS documents in the UW Collection you will need the Accession Number, which is the last field in any NTIS record. See our step-by-step guide to finding technical reports at the UW Engineering Library.
