Difference Between Letter and Number fields in search form

Most standards are issued with a letter and number combination. In this database the fields have been split apart for ease of searching. For instance, ANSI A 10.10 can be searched under Acronym field "ANSI", or letter field "A", or number field "10.10".

Alternate Spellings

Keep in mind that some standard words may also be entered with their British spellings, depending upon who issued the standard.

Words to consider: vapour, colour, fibre, centre, cataloguing, modelling, signalling.

Search using title keywords

If you don't find your standard in the database, try searching using words from the title of the standard or just the standard number without any acronyms. E.g: If the full title is: Safety requirements for material hoists , search with material hoists. The number is ANSI/ASME A 17.2.1B, search using 17.2.

Split Designations

When looking for standards, some core designation types appear both under ANSI alone and ANSI/XXXX. These "split designations" are listed below.

ANSI A ANSI/ASME A

ANSI B ANSI/NFPA
