C. COMMODITY TRADE CODE CLASSIFICATIONS:

 

(SITC=Standard Inter. Trade Classification; HS=Harmonized System)

 

When countries compile international trade data, a numerical classified product code is always used.  The following systems are used in the above resources.  In both the past and sometimes the present, individual countries, including the United States, had their own systems.  International classification systems change over time.
