EndNote Connections - Silverplatter
Advanced users may want to consider additional configuration options for Silverplatter databases:
- Optionally, you can configure search attributes.
Change the View from Connection Settings to Search Attributes and add any
desired Search Attributes from this table to
the Use column, associating each with a Search Field Name of your choosing.
Leave the Rel, Pos, Struct, Trunc, and Comp columns blank.
- You will probably want to configure MARC field to EndNote field mappings and change
the default EndNote document type. The defaults are configured for Books. To
change the mappings for other document types, change the View to Filter Settings.
The Filter Settings show which MARC fields and subfields make up each EndNote
field for the selected reference type. For Journal Articles, the SO (Source)
data is generally in MARC 773$t.
- Close the Connection dialog box by clicking the X in the upper right corner. You
will be prompted to save the file. Choose a name for the connection file and save it.
Now that the file has been saved, you may connect using this information by choosing
File/Connect and double clicking on the filename.
- To see the MARC record for a reference, do a search and retrieve a few records.
Bring up the Connection Status window (Windows/Show Connection Status)
and select Show: Record Data. You can open the Connection File for additional
editing of "Filter Settings" as described above.
See the EndNote help topic "Connecting to remote databases" for more information.
- In some cases, it is easier to use the SUTRS record syntax which gives you plaintext labels
instead of MARC tags. Record syntax is set on the initial Connection Options screen. You
will need to configure different filters for SUTRS than for MARC.
