Summit Borrowing at UW
We provide UW affiliated borrowers access to millions of titles from all over the Northwest. Learn more about the consortium of libraries that is responsible for the Summit shared catalog, the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
The Orbis Cascade Alliance changed software vendors in December of 2008. As a result there have been a number of modifications to the Summit borrowing system.
Tracking your Summit Requests
You can track your requests in Summit by accessing your Summit Account (select "University of Washington" from the pulldown menu and then login with your UWNetID) and Your Library Account to track the progress of your request as it moves from one system to the other. The best course of action is to check that the item has shipped in your Summit Account and then wait until you receive a notice that the item has arrived at the pickup location that you specified. What should I do if my Summit request wasn't filled?
Request the item through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - it generally takes 14 days for the item to arrive:
- Log in with your UW NetID.
- Select the "Borrow A Book" link and fill out the request form. Please include a note saying *SUMMIT FAILED* to ensure the success of your ILL request.
Typically, Summit requests fail because all copies in Summit libraries are either checked out or do not circulate. The new Summit system does not check the status of a copy until after a request has been made.
Visiting Other Summit Libraries
UW borrowers can visit other Summit libraries and check out materials. You will need to verify your status at the remote library by logging into your UW library account. Once a UW borrower is "adopted" in this manner by the remote library you can request that books from other libraries be delivered to that library. Visting patron information for all Summit libraries.
For best results, use www.summit.worldcat.org to search/request when you plan to pick up a Summit book at another library.
