Housing Options

for WAML Meeting Participants attending
the Fall 2004 meeting in Seattle, Washington
September 15-18, 2004

junkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunk Since costs in Seattle are high and WAML has typically planned low cost meetings for members on tight travel budgets, we’ve arranged for a special room rate in the unique, historic Panama Hotel.

The Panama Hotel is a lovingly restored historic property, located in Seattle’s International District. Adjacent to the hotel on the ground floor is the Panama Tea & Coffee House where coffees, teas, pastries, and light meals are served. We have made arrangements with the Panama Hotel for a terrific room rate which is half the cost for a standard hotel room in downtown Seattle. To get from the Panama Hotel to the meeting location in the Seattle Public Library it is a quick bus ride within the downtown free bus zone, or a half-mile walk. Morning coffee/tea and pastry at the Tea House are included in your room rate. In addition, the Panama Hotel provides wireless Internet access.

As described on its website:

The Panama Hotel was built as a “workingman’s” hotel, and is centrally located in Seattle's Historic International District, very close to downtown ... What the hotel lacks in amenities it makes up in charm. The brick outer facade opens up into a steep stairway flanked by bright brass handrails and illuminated by recessed lighting reflecting off of smooth tile. It reminds us of classic Hollywood. The rooms are small with personal sinks and white linens. There are separated men and women’s bathrooms for each floor that are shared among approximately five rooms. Residents of the hotel are serviced with daily maid service and a central lounge. There is parking nearby although not covered in the hotel's rate.

Parking near the Panama Hotel
This map shows the location of parking facilities in the International District. The lots closest to the Panama are each about half a block away, one to the east (corner of Maynard Ave S. and S. Main) and another to the west (corner of 5th Ave and S. Main).

Alternatives to the Panama Hotel
Recognizing that European-style accommodations may not suit everyone, here is a selection of additional mainstream hotels in downtown Seattle near the central Library. We have made no evaluation of these hotels and do not wish to imply any recommendation other than convenience to the meeting location.
