While a relatively young force in contemporary American government, the Family Values Movement is politically powerful, well organized and quite vocal. Many organizations describe themselves as connected to this movement; some of those groups and their publications are listed here:
Web Sites
- Christian Coalition
Founded by Pat Robertson and directed by Ralph Reed, this organization is composed of Christian evangelicals, pro-family Roman Catholics and others working to promote Christian values in government. Two publications are available on the World Wide Web:
- Concerned Women for America
Founded by Beverley LaHaye in 1979 to fight the Equal Rights Amendment,CWA sees its purpose to "preserve, protect, and promote traditional and Judeo-Christian values." It opposes rights for gays, supports parental rights and sees the United Nations as a threat to the personal liberty of Americans. The CWA homepage presents selected articles from the CWA publication Family Voice.
- Eagle Forum
Presided over by Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum supports parental rights, a strong national defense, tax cuts at every level, private enterprise and pro-family policies. It opposes abortion, "New World Order" movements, the Equal Rights Amendment, government support of the arts, violence, pornography and attacks on traditional family values. Two publications The Phyllis Schlafly Report and Education Reporter report regularly on these issues and many other concerns.
