Come West Along the Road is a popular long-running television series of Irish
traditional music broadcast since 1994 by RT{226}E, the Irish national
broadcaster, and in its Irish-language version Siar an B{226}othar since 2001 by
TG4, the national Irish-language channel. The series takes its title from a well
known traditional reel and is an invitation to the West, traditionally the Irish
region of the past. In over 150 programmes to date, the two series have
presented and contextualised discoveries from across the spectrum of traditional
music, bringing performances forgotten or never seen and introducing new
generations to musicians and music of the past, and to the social and
technological history inherent in the material.
