Arts and Humanities Citation Index* -
1990-present. A multidisciplinary database covering the
journal literature of the arts and humanities, with cited
references but not abstracts. Indexes 1,100 of the
world's leading arts and humanities journals, plus
individually selected, relevant items from over 6,800
major science and social science journals.

Academic Index* - Provides indexing and
abstracting for approximately 1,500 scholarly and general
interest periodicals, covering all major fields of study
in the humanities, social sciences, and science and
technology.

National Newspapers* - This newspaper database
provides coverage of major newspapers, including the New
York times, Washington post, Los Angeles times, Christian
Science monitor, USA today, Boston globe and the Atlanta
journal/constitution.

Research Library Complete* - Indexing and full
text for a basic collection of general-interest,
humanities, social science and science periodicals and
newspapers; 1986 to present. Divided into Newspapers and
periodicals sections.
- Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature. (Suzzallo Reference or Odegaard Reference A I3 R48)
indexes periodical literature beginning in 1901. This resource is especially useful for bridging the gap between
materials covered in RIPM and RILM after 1900 and before the 1960s.
Music journals that have full text appearing in electronic
format, either all or in part, selected for the University
of Washington Libraries collection can be found by

Music Education
In addition to the Music Specific
Resources, there are some other resources that are
useful for research in music education.

Education Index - This paper index (Suzzallo
Index/Abstract Z5813 .E23 ) indexes journal articles in
the field of education. Coverage begins in 1929 so is
particularly useful for historic information.
ERIC* (Educational Resources Information
Center) - indexes and abstracts articles from
over 750 professional journals and a variety of other
resources in the field of education such as conference
papers, reports, curriculum guides, etc. Coverage
includes items from 1966 to the present. This large
database is a rich resource for research in music
education.
Entries in the database are designated into the two
categories of materials ,journals and other documents.
They are designated in the first displayed field (AN)
by EJ (journals) or ED (other documents) followed by a
specific number. Most of the ED items are available in
the Microfilms/Newspapers Library on microfiche. You
will need the ED number to find documents in the
microfiche collection.

Music Article Guide - A paper index (Music
Reference - ML118 .M87 ) Indexes periodical articles in
music, "geared exclusively to the special needs of school
and college music educators". The Guide indexes over 200
periodicals from the United States, primarily regional
journals not indexed elsewhere. Coverage is from
1966-1997.

Education Resource Base (MERB/CMI) - "is a
bibliographic database of more than 30,000 resources in
music and music education from 32 Canadian and
International journals and other sources covering the
period 1956 through the present. The journals are fully
indexed by title, author, and subject." Does not include
abstracts, but does include some items not found in other
resources.

Education Search System - Includes an index to a
small set of music education periodicals and the
Poland-Cady Abstract collection The Poland-Cady Abstract
collection contains approximately 4,500 abstracts of
research in music prior to 1965. The collection was
developed by Professors William Poland and Henry Cady at
The Ohio State University in the late 1960s and early
1970s.

PsychInfo* - Indexes and abstracts journal
articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports in
the field of psychology and psychological aspects of
related disciplines including medicine, psychiatry,
nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology,
linguistics, anthropology, business, and law. Coverage
includes items from 1887 to the present.

CAIRSS
- Bibliographic database of music research literature in
music education, music psychology, music therapy, and
music medicine. The focus of the primary journals lean
toward music therapy and psychology and includes several
journals not indexed in other resources.

PsychInfo* - Contains citations and summaries
of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical
reports in the field of psychology and psychological
aspects of related disciplines including medicine,
psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology,
physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and
law.

Medline* - Covers more than 3,900 journals in
biomedicine, including citations published in Index
medicus, International nursing index, and Index to dental
literature, from 1966 to the present.

Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health
Literature* - Online version provides coverage of
the literature in nursing and 17 allied health
disciplines from 1982-. Over 700 journals are regularly
indexed. Updated monthly.
Finding Dissertations submitted at University of
Washington
Use our
online
catalog to find master's or doctoral theses and
dissertations submitted at the University of Washington. For
a complete list, search the Genre/Form subjects for
"theses music" or combine it with other search
elements.

O ur library purchases some dissertations from other
institutions. You can search for these in our

Abstracts* - Includes citations for dissertations
ranging from 1861 to those accepted last semester;
represents the work of authors from over 1,000 North
American graduate schools and European universities.
Entries for Dissertations from 1980 forward and Master's
theses from 1988 forward include abstracts.

Doctoral
Dissertations in Musicology Online - DDM-Online
is a database of bibliographic records for completed
dissertations and new dissertation topics in the fields
of musicology, music theory, and ethnomusicology, as well
as in related musical, scientific, and humanistic
disciplines.

MTO Dissertation Index - This index
includes announcements of completed and in-progress
dissertations that have appeared in Music Theory
Online.

A Classified Index of American Dissertations and
Dissertation Projects on Choral Music Completed or
Currently in Progress through 1989 - A paper index
(Music Reference - ML128 .C48 A53 1990), this index
includes dissertations from 1938 through 1989 dealing
with choral, vocal, church or other related music
subjects.
Interlibrary Loan obtains materials
not owned by the University of Washington Libraries. They provide
interlibrary loan and document delivery services, including Orbis Cascade
Alliance material. After initial registration the system allows users to
request, monitor and change their requests online.
