How do I find articles? How do I find journals?

Articles are not indexed in the library catalog; you will only find the names of the journals in which they are published. Instead, you first need to use an article index to find the article you are looking for, then locate the journal using the library catalog. Indexes (such as RILM, Music Index, UnCover, etc.) are found online and in print form.

There is a page on the UW Music Library web site dealing specifically with finding articles and dissertations.

After you have found an article that you would like to read, you can use the UW library catalog (specifically the journal search) to figure out if and where the journal is held in our collection. It is common to find articles that are in journals not held by the UW libraries; if you are interested in getting articles from elsewhere, try Articles and Dissertations not owned by UW Libraries.
