How do I find encyclopedias?

If you already know the title of the encyclopedia you are looking for, try a title search in the online catalog. If you’re not sure which one you want, perhaps a Library of Congress subject search, such as “Encyclopedias--Music” would work well. Also, if you are looking for information about a particular aspect of music, try a subject search on “Encyclopedias--Music” and browse the subjects nearby (for example, for an encyclopedia on Thai music, you might find “Encyclopedias--Music--Thailand.”

For online encyclopedias, while these are accessible using the online catalog, the UW Music Library also maintains web pages listing online resources. There is a page of music encyclopedias and dictionaries and a general page of music online tools.
