Climatedata - Summary of the Day


Climatedata NCDC Summary of the Day provides access to the National Climatic Data Center data files of daily observations from across the United States. Parameters of temperature, precipitation, snowfall and evaporation can be displayed in Daily Statistics, Daily Data, Monthly Statistics, Monthly Data, Bin Statistics or Station History views. Data can be plotted on graphs, printed or exported in different formats.

Climatedata is available in all the UW science library units.

DISPLAYING DATA

Choose Data from tool bar and the desired display or click on the icon as below:

Daily Statistics - summary statistics on a day-by-day basis. Mean, minimum, and maximum values for each day of the year and the year the minimum or maximum occurred for each day can be displayed.

Daily Data - displays the time-series of daily values. The data are formatted into a day-month-year grid. Summary statistics are also displayed for each month.

M

Monthly Data - displays the time-series of monthly values. The data are arranged in a month-by-year grid. Daily values are summarized to monthly values by one of three user-selectable statistics: total, average, end-of-month, maximum, minimum.

Monthly Statistics - summary statistics on a month-by-month basis. Summarizes data over the entire period of record, reporting three types of statistics: daily statistics, period statistics (monthly or annual), and exceedances.

Bin Statistics - presents a view of the distribution of the daily observations for a selected station. The distribution display is expressed as counts of observations falling within defined limits, or bins. It covers the entire period of record for that station.

MARKING MULTIPLE STATIONS FOR EXPORT

Click on Mark from the tool bar and then click on Mark Station for each of the stations to be exported.

EXPORTING OR DOWNLOADING

  1. Choose Export or the X icon from the tool bar. For exporting multiple stations, choose Export from the tool bar, then click on Export Marked Stations.
  2. Choose the desired parameter and click OK.
  3. Choose the desired view and format* from the scroll down menus under Export Options.
  4. Choose the desired years if applicable.
  5. Click on the icon on the Export tool bar.
  6. Specify the drive and name the file (e.g. a:clim.tab).

*Eight formats are available for exporting, although not all formats are supported for all views:
