Art abounds in Oaxaca, a colonial city of 350,000 about 300 miles south of Mexico City and home to many artists and galleries. Oaxaca is also the name of the Mexican state and home to seven indigenous groups, the largest of which is Zapotec.
The city is noted for its mild climate, located at about 5000 feet altitude
There are many festivals, both religious (Catholicism is the dominant religion) and sectarian. Tourism is probably the largest industry; there are several thousand tourists during the winter months, mostly U.S. and Canadians.

Formed in 1942 by University of Munich students, The White Rose was a small, non-violent Nazi resistance group in
Germany that spearheaded a nine-month anonymous leaflet and graffiti campaign calling for active opposition to Adolf
Hitler’s regime. Seven members of the group were executed in 1943 and many others were imprisoned. The groups 6th leaflet,
known as the “Manifesto of the Students of Munich,” was later airdropped over Germany in June 1943 by Allied planes.

]]>As a pilot for Winter Quarter 2013, we are now accepting requests from students to place on reserve books required for a course.
Requested books must be designated as "required" in the course syllabus or identified by the course instructor as primary for completion of course work. Requested titles may not include supplemental readings or books recommended for course research projects or "further reading."
We believe there is no better way to have a reserves shelf that is relevant and useful than to have it guided by those who will use it. Using data from this pilot we hope to determine if the demand for this service is significant enough to gain regular funding.

Al-Dhaher was born in Nasriyah, Iraq. At the age of fifteen he was accepted to the Institute of Fine Arts in Basra, Iraq, where he lived and received his training in classical art, graduating first in his class in 1989. Al-Dhaher fled Iraq in 1991 due to his involvement in a failed uprising against the regime of Saddam Hussein at the end of the first Gulf war.
