Get a Book

Search the UW Libraries Catalog. Note the location, call number, and status of the item you're interested in. [help me!]
Refer to the chart below for actions that can be taken for the various statuses.
If the item isn't in the UW Libraries Catalog, search Summit, the Orbis Cascade Alliance union catalog; either directly or from the UW Libraries Catalog. Request the item through Summit.
If you still cannot find the item, request it through Interlibrary Loan or Health Sciences Document Delivery.

What's the status?	What does this mean?	What should I do?
Available	The item is currently on the shelf.	Note the location and call number and go to the shelf address to get it yourself or Click to have the item sent to a library closer to you. Read more about items in Auxiliary Stacks or Storage locations.
Due [date]	This item is currently checked out.	Click or
On Hold	Someone has already requested this item.	Click or
In Process	The item is being processed and is not yet on the shelf.	Click or
On order	The item is on order, but has not yet arrived in the Libraries.	Click and you will be notified when it arrives.
Missing	The book is missing.	Click or Check at the circulation desk for available options.

How long will it take to get a requested item?

If the item has a status of "Available"...
Library units retrieve books from the shelves and send them to other libraries on a daily basis. Depending on the time of day and the day of the week, it can take from 3-5 days for books to be received in the library unit you request. Books in auxilliary stacks are retrieved twice a day, Monday through Saturday, and once a day on Sundays and holidays.

If the item is checked out...
If the book is due in 7 days or less the due date will remain the same. For books due in more than 7 days, the due date will be changed to 7 days from today's date or 14 days from the checkout date, whichever is later.
