Services for UW Extension Instructors

What kinds of services are available to support my teaching and improve the research skills of my students?

How can I make Libraries materials available to my students?

Can UWEO Instructors borrow books, DVDs, or other materials from the UW Libraries?

How can UWEO instructors access online journals, ebooks and other resources that are UW-restricted?

I live outside of the UW Seattle, UW Bothell and UW Tacoma areas. Can I have materials delivered to me?

I'm not on campus often. Can I request to have materials held for me at one of the UW Libraries for pickup?

What about materials held by other libraries?

Borrowing Materials from the Libraries

Yes. If you have a Husky Card, it serves as your library card.

If you are not issued a Husky card you may take your current Instructor Contract to the Suzzallo Library Cashier to obtain a UW borrower card. You can also mail, email or fax in a copy of your Instructor Contract to the Library Cashier and you will be mailed a UW Borrower Card. For more information, and other options visit the UW Extension Onsite Instructor Handbook (see UW Libraries section).

For more information on Libraries borrowing privileges for instructors, visit Borrowing Information for Faculty.

Accessing UW-restricted Online Resources

With your UW NetID and password you can access thousands of online resources, including full-text journal, newspaper and magazine articles, as well as ebooks, image collections, sound recordings and other online media. More information on obtaining a UW NetID.

To access these UW-restricted resources while off-campus, you will need to start at a UW Libraries web page, click on the "Off-Campus Access" login box in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and log in. To see what resources are recommended for your subject area, visit the Libraries Subject Guides.

You can also add the Proxy Bookmarklet to your home computer browser window, It is necessary for you to be "authenticated" as a UW student in order to use the licensed resources from an off-campus location.

For more information, visit Connect from Off-Campus.

Having Materials Delivered

Current UW Students, faculty and staff may request to have books and articles that are owned by the UW Libraries delivered to their home address for a fee, using Interlibrary Loan. To learn about fees and how to place a request, visit Interlibrary Loan FAQs.

Requesting Books for Pickup

Current UW Students, faculty and staff may request to have books and other materials held at any UW Library for pick-up. Using the Search UW Libraries and Beyond catalog, you may request to have books held by UW Libraries, Summit Libraries (see below) and libraries worldwide delivered and held for pickup at any UW Library. For more information visit Request Books Using WorldCat Local.

Interlibrary Loan and Summit Libraries

Interlibrary Loan supplies materials not owned by the UW Libraries to current UW students, faculty and staff except those in Health Sciences and Social Work and the University of Washington Law School.

UW Students, faculty and staff have access to materials held at the 30 academic libraries (known as Summit Libraries) in Washington and Oregon that are part of the Orbis-Cascade Alliance. These materials may be requested through the Search UW Libraries and Beyond catalog on the Libraries homepage, and held for pickup at any UW or Summit Library.

It is also possible to visit any of the libraries in person and borrow materials on site, using your Husky Card.
