The meeting began with a welcome from Lee Lyttle, the Dean of the Evergreen library, and a wonderful spread of refreshments (thank you, Evergreen librarians!). Randy Stilson, the Evergreen Archivist and Records Manager, led the group on a tour of the renovations underway at the library. Work began a year ago, and is slated to be finished this summer.

Managing Gifts and Creating a Gift Referral Network
Carolyn Aamot, Manager of UW Libraries’ Gifts Collection made a presentation to explain the UW Libraries’ Gift program. Carolyn reported that the UW Libraries turn down about 50% of offered gifts. About 15-20% are added to their collection; otherwise, she makes an effort to redistribute serviceable books through the Books for Libraries program. Carolyn emphasized that if our libraries are in need of books, we can contact her to arrange to select gift books that are in good condition, but that don’t meet UW collection criteria. Libraries must make their own arrangements for book transportation.

Jennifer Sundheim, Collection Coordinator for UWT, presented a proposal for a Gift Referral Network, to help efficiently distribute “unwanted” gifts among all of our libraries. The web-based network form will allow us to specify which types of gifts our libraries are especially interested in. To sign your library up for the network, visit the South Sound Librarians website: http://www.lib.washington.edu/soundlibrarians/gifts.htm

Information Landscapes: An Academic Internship Program at TESC
Ernestine Kimbro and Jules Unsel of TESC presented an overview of this relatively new Evergreen program. Interns work with librarians and discipline faculty to explore the question of how technology and 21st century information management are changing the study and teaching of liberal arts. Several students showcased their work, which included a ‘Zine Cataloging project and an Evergreen Experience Wiki. Business Meeting
The meeting began with the review and unanimous approval of the October 10, 2005 minutes.

Carole Svensson (svensson@u.washington.edu) reminded us to send her our libraries’ contact information, as well as Information Literacy initiatives from our libraries that we’d like to share with others. Carole will post these to the South Sound Librarians website: http://www.lib.washington.edu/soundlibrarians/

The next meeting will be held in May. Anna will send out a call for agenda items.

Respectfully submitted,
Rachel Goon
